Jail and Prison Ministry

Sister Theresa prepares inmates for high school diplomas, supports families of inmates and encourages literacy with the children, responds to material needs when a homeless person is released and donates Bibles and books of spirituality.

Sister Maureen works with the women transitioning from jail back into society.  She prepares them to leave jail and continues to work with them upon their release.  She helps them access resources, supports and encourages them on their journey of rehabilitation.

Other Sisters and Good Shepherd Affiliates meet the needs of the inmates in a variety of ways at the Cumberland County Jail.

      They:

  • lead prayer services;

  • support inmates through partnership in prayer and correspondence;

  • make weekly visits and facilitate faith sharing groups;

  • oversee preparation and delivery of Christmas card packets to over 400 inmates.
