Becoming...

Becoming...I love that word! It reminds me of what God is doing in my life and that makes me smile. Becoming came to mind as I was rock painting with our Sisters and our resident women at Esther Residence, a house for women in transition. My sister, Jeanne, introduced us to this art form ~ a first for all of us. I looked at a number of rocks and chose the one that looked like a cat curled up sleeping. After a few instructions, I began to paint. Within a short time, my rock began to look like a sleeping cat. I was amazed and delighted!
That made me think of how much God must delight in us when He sees each one of us slowly and gradually becoming who He has created us to be. I could see my vocation call in the light of this rock painting. To think that God chose me, from among so many others, to become a Sister!

What about you? Could God be setting His eyes on you ~ choosing you from among many ~ calling you to become a Sister? Any rock painting in the future?

Dear Sister, In the 50's and 60's my brother and I were students at St Joseph School. Old Town, Maine. My Brother is now a priest and is the national director of family theater in holywood, California. He attributes his call to the priesthood to the wonderful sisters of Good Shephard who taught us at this school. Thank you so much and my family and I love you. I really loved especially sister cyrille she was such a wonderful teacher and nun. I will forever remember her in my prayers. I wish my grandchildren would have the same opportunity to have such wonderful teachers.
Edmund, thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. It always makes me so proud of my Community when I receive e-mails like yours. So many people have been helped by the Sisters and so many more, like your grandchildren, could be helped if we only had more Sisters. I only wish we had women knocking at our door. I wonder why they don't.
I also wonder why there are not more women called to be Sisters. What is so different today? Of course, I know that the media and the world are certainly exerting pressure and influence. Yet it would seem that there would be SOME who hear the call above the sound and fury. Is there something we can do to encourage them? I certainly agree with Edmund - we need our grandchildren to have the blessing of our Sisters!
Hello Sister,
Just discovered your Site this weekend. It looks interesting. Your sisters are doing some really needed ministries so having a updated website and Blog does help. It's also great that you are open to women of all ages, both single and widowed.
Will be checking back in to learn more!
God Bless ALL of you!!
Jane, thanks for your feedback on our website. I'm glad you'll be checking back to learn more! Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hi Sr. Elaine,
You're doing a great job. God doesn't ask us to be successful, but to be faithful to what he calls us to. The internet is the way to go these days. More & more people are using it in business. So hopefully, you'll get more responses as time goes by. Our prayers are with you. Love in Him, Marcelle
Marcelle, how wonderful to hear from you. Thank you for taking the time to post a comment. God bless you as only He can.
Dear Sister Elaine:
Sister Joanne Roy told me about your website. I too am a product of a Catholic elementary school taught by the Good Shepherd Sisters (St. Joseph's in Biddeford). I can only speculate about the declining number of vocations today - smaller families and a more secular society, among others. It may be that in those countries of the developing world where you have a presence (where the total commercialization of life has not taken firm root yet), young women may be better able to discern that they have a vocation to the religious life and to serving Christ.
Best wishes.
Great site. I just found it. Think of me on 12/22, next operation. Thanks for all your prayers.

Nice article Elaine. I so enjoyed the evening of rock painting at Esther House. It is a welcoming place, a peaceful place, a safe place.
I was so taken by the rock art created by the residents and sisters. It was a reminder that everything dwells within....waiting to be called forward.
Love, Jeanne
