Christmas and New Year's in the Convent

Christmas Tree and giftsI love to tell others how grateful I am to be able to celebrate these two days with my "Sisters".  However, I must admit that it took me a while to adjust to Christmas and New Year's in the convent.  For the longest time I was so homesick remembering family gatherings, especially at my grandmother's.

Christmas Day is celebrated within each local community.  After Mass and morning praise, we leisurely open our gifts, prepare and enjoy a delicious meal, relax with a movie, board game, card game, or the WII.  Evening praise and quiet time end a great day.

On New Year's Eve we gather together with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament for a common prayer of thanksgiving and reconciliation.  What a powerful way to end the old year and begin the new one!

New Year's Day is celebrated at St. Joseph Convent where our elderly and infirmed Sisters live.  After morning praise and Mass, talking and laughter can be heard throughout the house.  How pleasant it is to be together!  A great dinner is enjoyed by all followed by more socializing.  By late afternoon we are back in our local communities grateful for the gift of community life with our Sisters.

May your New Year be happy, healthy, and holy.  May you experience ever more deeply God's great love for you.

My New Year's resolution ~ BLOG EVERY WEEK!    See you on January 8, 2012.

Looking forward to your "Blogging Resolution". What you write helps to see what life as a Sister is like. Many of us can benefit from your insights and having an "inside view". Thank you for doing this!
