Becoming a Sister

The Minimum Requirements

  • Baptized, Confirmed and practicing Catholic
  • Single or widowed
  • Good Health
  • Completion of high school

The Stages in Religious Life

INITIAL CONTACT
Time Period:  Varies with individual
Goal:   To deepen one's knowledge and search more seriously
  • To have a Contact Sister and visit with the Sisters
  • To read selected material on consecrated life, in particular, the SCIM way of life
CANDIDACY Candidate
Time Period: Varies with individual
Goal:   "Come and See" (John 1:39)
  • To associate with the Sisters

  • To meet regularly with the Vocation Director

Pre Novice
Time Period:  6 months - 2 years
 
Goal:   "They left everything and became His followers." (Luke 5:11)
  • To live with the sisters (financial independence)

  • To facilitate the transition from the secular to the consecrated life.

  • To discern one's capacity for community living and life as a Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Novice
Time Period:  2 years
 
Goal:   "Come, follow ME!" (Matthew 12:21) 
  • To prepare for commitment to the Lord as a Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

  • To deepen one's spirituality of the congregation

  • To discern the apostolic service (ministry) to which God is calling one to serve Him and His people
PROFESSION Temporarily Professed
Time Period:  5-7 years
Goal:   "My vows to the Lord I will pay in presence of all His people." (Ps.116) 
  • To make a temporary commitment.  Through this profession of public vows, made yearly, one is consecrated to God and becomes a member of the congregation

  • To integrate one's prayer life, community life and ministry

  • To be involved in one's spiritual and professional development
  Perpetually Professed
Time Period:  Lifetime

Perpetually ProfessedGoal:   

To consecrate oneself to God in a life-long commitment as a Servant of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
